John G. McGrath, 92, of Kingsley, died Tuesday at Endless Mountains Health Systems, Montrose. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Kathleen M. (Ryan) McGrath, in 1999.

Born Nov. 27, 1921, in New York City, son of the late James C. and Katherine (Pistor) McGrath, John retired as a battalion chief after working 33 years for the New York City Fire Department, and moved to Kingsley in 1982. He was a member of Holy Name of Mary Church, where he was an altar server and did publicity for the church for many years. He was also an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, and a member of the Men of the Sacred Heart.
He attended daily Mass, and enjoyed gardening and baking.
John is survived by his son, John and wife, Sally McGrath, Kingsley; sister, Margaret McGrath, Long Island, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph C. McGrath; and sister, Helen Schlameuss.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Mary Church by the Rev. Philip Rayappan. Interment, Holy Name of Mary Cemetery, Montrose.
Friends may call Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home.
