Ray D. Arthur Sr., 86, of North Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Jermyn, died March 12 at Cape Coral Hospital, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dawn Blake. He was cared for by his companion, Harriet McIntyre, North Fort Myers.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Ray R. and Marion Manning Arthur, he was a graduate of Ben Franklin High School and attended the State University of New York. He was a Navy veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean War. Before retirement, he worked as an installer for Western Electric and retired under Lucent Technologies.

He was a member of the Ancient Scottish Rite of the Free Masons and the Aurora Lodge 523, as well as other Mason and Masonic organizations. He was a Noble with ARABA Shrine Temple, Fort Myers. He participated in their mission to care for burned and crippled children shuttling those pediatric patients to the Shriners Hospital in Tampa. He also was a member of the ARABA Shrines Miniature Model T Little Car Drill Team.

He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed sharing his passion for travel and the ocean with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his son, Ray and wife, Mary, Carbondale; three daughters, Dawn Alee Arthur, Van Nuys, Calif.; Colleen Kania and husband, Michael, Jermyn; and Kim Aston, Carbondale; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

As per his request, Ray was cremated.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Battenberg Funeral Home, 363 Washington Ave., Jermyn, with the Rev. Arthur Davis of the Asbury Methodist Church, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Valley View Memorial Park, Scott Twp.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Masonic services will be at 7.
