Angelina N. Gerek, 98, of Lorain, Ohio, died Monday at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home, Lorain. She was the wife of John F. Gerek, who died in 1992.

Born in Mayfield, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Amelia (Iovana) Lagana. After leaving Mayfield, she resided in Buffalo, N.Y., for five years, and then resided the past 55 years in Lorain. She was a member of the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lorain, and helped run the church bingo for many years. She was a life member of the ladies auxiliary of the VFW Post 451 in Lorain.
She is survived by a son, John S. Gerek, Lorain; adopted daughter, Flo Gilles, Lorain; three step-grandchildren, Angie Joplin and husband, Frank, Mount Washington, Ky.; Dennis Rourke and wife, Becky, Elyria, Ohio; and Ron Smith and wife, Kari, Wakeman, Ohio; nine step-great-grandchildren, Brianne, Dean, Bianca, Heather, Amanda, Ashley, Austyn, David and Dana; three step-great-great-grandchildren, Anthony, Alexander and Alana; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Guy and John Lagana; and two sisters, Catherine Lagana and Mary Noverini.
A private service will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Mayfield. Arrangements were entrusted to the Parise Funeral Home Inc., Carbondale.
