Lloyd "Tate" McGowan was born August 14, 1950, the fourth child of the late Jewerel Webster and Audrey Ball McGowan Sr., in Foxworth, Miss.; he departed this life April 26, 2014 at the Creekside Health and Rehabilitation Center, Carbondale.

At a young age, he joined the Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church, Foxworth, Miss. He attended the Marion County School System and graduated from Marion Central High School, Class of 1969. He migrated north in 1980 and worked diligently in the janitorial field until he could no longer.

Lloyd was a member of the Holy Spirit Pentecostal Church, Dunmore, where he faithfully attended and served as a deacon under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Carmelita Memolo.

Lloyd enjoyed the peace and solace of fishing and will be affectionately be remembered by his many nieces and nephews as "Uncle Tate."

He leaves to mourn his passing four brothers, Jewerel Webster McGowan Jr. and his wife, Diana, Adrian, Mich.; Bobby Elgin McGowan and his wife, Gloria, New Brunswick, N.J.; Jerry Crawford and his wife, Dorothy, Jackson, Miss.; Henry Austin McGowan, Scranton; brother-in-law, Clifford W. Seagroves, Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Clara J. Haynes, Columbia, Md.; Constance D. Johnson, Scranton; an aunt, Mrs. Ruthie Lee McGowan, Foxworth, Miss.; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sharon Denise McGowan, Gwendolyn McGowan Seagroves; Maw Maw, Daisy McGowan; and Paw Paw, Webster McGowan.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Avenue, Scranton. Interment will follow in the Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore.
