The Guest Book is expired.
Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Rose Skettino Mecca. Educated in Dunmore schools, she was a graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and attended Marywood College. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Clarks Summit State Hospital for over 42 years and held the position of nursing supervisor. She also served as acting director of nurses for a period of time. She was a devoted member of St. Ann's Basilica Parish and enjoyed attending church functions as well as the annual novena.
Carmella was an avid gardener who also enjoyed traveling, bowling, reading and playing cards. She frequently went on trips with her friends, and would help organize or cook for family events. Her Christmas Eve eggplant Parmesan was a family delight for many years and her Christmas Eve tradition will be carried out for many years to come.
Carmella's great joy in life was being able to be around her family. She was a strong and nurturing woman who was known to offer herself to family members, from helping with the medical care of her aunts, to baking pies as well as playing wiffle ball in her backyard with her grandchildren. Carmella was a hardworking, devoted and selfless mother who always put her children first and was always kind to those around her. She was instrumental in raising her grandchildren and supported them by attending their events. She was a strong pillar in her family and will be deeply missed.
Her family would like to thank everyone who was special and active in her life and who also participated in her care, especially her brother Robert Mecca, cousins Anne Catalano, Carmella Zaleski and husband, Richard, Jennifer Zaleski and Julie Zaleski.
