Joseph Maruhnich, 79, of Bayonne, N.J., died Tuesday at Bayonne Medical Center.

Born July 11, 1934, in Scranton, son of the late George and Anna Swetz Maruhnich, he was educated in Scranton and Dunmore schools, and was a 1953 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He served in the Army for two years and with the National Guard for six years. He worked and retired from Western Electric, Kearny, N.J., after 30 years.

He is survived by two brothers, Michael, Scranton; and Frank, Hamden, Conn.; five sisters, Ann Bartlett, Tomball, Texas; Mary and Pauline Maruhnich, both of East Stroudsburg; Helen Fabiani, Falls Twp.; and Margie Champine, Scranton; nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and John Maruhnich; and three sisters, Irene and Barbara Maruhnich and Julia Drosinski.

The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Ave., West Scranton, by the Rev. Nicholas Ferencz. Interment, St. George's Cemetery, Ransom Twp. Friends may call Sunday, 3 to 6 p.m., with Panachyda at 3.
