Thomas J. "Knute" Brown, 75, formerly of Dunmore, died Wednesday at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility, Scranton.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late John and Janet Dzwileski Brown, he was a former member of St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre. He was a graduate of Meyers High School and he served with the Marines Corps. Before retirement, he was employed as a warehouseman, an over the road trucker and union organizer. As union organizer for the AFL-CIO, he was instrumental in organizing the Park Rangers at Smokey Mountains National Park and Mammoth Caves.

Tom was a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles, he operated a homeless shelter, tended bar, volunteered as a fireman, served as social director at Pocono resorts and he was an avid Notre Dame fan.

Surviving are three sons, John Brown and Sean Brown, both of Louisville, Ky.; and Joseph Brown, Sheatown, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Rachel Kaminski, Nanticoke; grandchildren, Taylor, Erin and Reilly Brown; brothers, John "Jay" and Donald Brown; sisters, Alice Saunders, Janett Gilman, Cathy Brown and MaryAnn Cox; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Brown; and a sister, Noreen Bellino.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be planned at a later date in Kentucky. Arrangements, Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St. Dickson City.
