Joseph P. Trzcinski, 42, formerly of Avoca, died Tuesday at the City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born in Avoca on March 20, 1972, son of Joseph and Carol Ann (Padden) Trzcinski, Joe attended St. Mary's Elementary School, Avoca, and was a 1990 graduate of Seton Catholic High School, Pittston. After high school, he joined the Army and served during the Gulf War from 1992-1995. Joseph was very proud of the time he served with the 101st Airborne 5th Group Special Forces Division. He served in Somalia and Kwait. Joseph was currently attending Blue Ridge Community College, Martinsburg, W.Va.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Jill Santos and her husband, Jason, Kingston; brother, Paul, Old Forge; niece, Mattea Santos; nephew, Christian Santos; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from Kiesinger Funeral Services, 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Hawthorne Street, Avoca, with the Rev. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Interment will be held at the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 301 Grant St., Suite 900, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
