Anthony L. Chiavacci, M.D., 58, of Clarks Summit, died on Friday at home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on Aug. 29, 1955, son of the late Deno and Vera Troback Chiavacci, he was a 1973 graduate of Pittston Area High School, a 1977 graduate of Wilkes University, where he received a bachelor's degree in biology, and a 1980 graduate of Universidad Central Del Este, where he received a doctorate of medicine.
Upon returning to the area in 1989 and after completing residency training in Kentucky and Ohio, he was employed as an emergency room physician at Community Medical Center, Moses Taylor and Mid-Valley hospitals. He also had a private practice of medicine and from 2007 to present, and was a physician and medical director at Corizon Health Care, servicing various Pennsylvania State Correctional Institutes. He was a lifelong sports enthusiast. He was a member of UNICO and Minooka Lions Club. He was a former member of the Navy Reserves.
Surviving are his daughter, Gabriella Chiavacci, Moosic; sister, Rosetta Chiavacci, Ambler; brother, Deno Chiavacci, Exeter; niece, Nicia Chiavacci, Philadelphia; and numerous cousins, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Chiavacci, M.D.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William St., Pittston. Interment will follow at West Pittston Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
