Carl J. Heen, 76, a resident of Scranton and a resident of Morristown and West Caldwell, N.J., from 1965 until 1996, died late Wednesday evening in the Dunmore Health Care Center after an illness.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Carl N. and Madelyn F. Sullivan Heen, he graduated from Scranton Technical High School, class of 1957, and served with the Army from 1957 until his discharge in 1958. In the early 1960s, he owned and operated the Carl Heen Café on Cedar Avenue, Scranton. He then went to work in New Jersey for the Postal Service. After retiring, he returned to Scranton.
Surviving are a son, Francis J. Heen and his wife, Caroline, South Abington Twp.; a daughter, Dawn Bickerstaff and her husband, J.D., Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Joe, Carly and Luke Bickerstaff, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; two step-grandchildren, Cory Stewart, South Abington Twp.; and Bailey Cooper, Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Carol Jones, Scranton; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Carl Heen; a brother, Robert Heen; and a sister, Eleanor Williams.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton, with Mass at 9:30 at St. Peter's Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Ave., Scranton. Interment will follow at the St. Catherine's Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
