Catherine Bell, North Scranton, died Sunday afternoon at Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. Her husband, Walter Bell Sr., died in 1997.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Charles and Blodwin Eley Guernsey, she was a lifelong resident of the city. Before retirement, she worked as a weaver at Coopers Rug Factory and in sales at Norton's Dress Shop.
She was of the Protestant faith, and a member of the Life Geisinger program.
The family expresses its thanks to Life Geisinger for its compassion and support.
Surviving are a son, Walter Bell Jr. and wife, Becky, Moscow; two daughters, Patricia Bell, Scranton; and Julie Kirk and husband, Carl, Glenmont, N.Y.; five grandchildren, "Doots" Bell and wife, Julie; Matthew Kirk and wife, Stacey; Minda Kirk Murray and husband, Mark; Wendy Bell Lankford and husband, Aaron; Jay Bell and fiancée, Kate Cassidy; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Bomberger-Lesko Funeral Home Inc., 1660 N. Main Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Goodrich, Providence United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Friends may call Thursday, 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Providence United Presbyterian Church.
