The Rev. John Albert Castellani, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Pittston, Pa., died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 17, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma Castellani. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Mr. Warren M. Castellanl, MBA, M.Ed., New York City, New York; Dr. John D. Castellani, Washington, D.C.; and Dr. Brian C. Castellani, along with daughter-in-law, Margaret A. Castellani and granddaughter, Ruby M. Castellani, all from Cleveland, Ohio. Also surviving are his siblings, Nancy, Susan and David; along with several nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Castellani was born in Taylor, Pa., and was married for 54 wonderful years to Nancy J. Ocenas of Throop, Pa. In addition to serving in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve, the Rev. Castellani's academic achievements include attending the University of Scranton (with a focus in oceanography) and Kent State University (with a focus in psychology} for his bachelor's, completing his ordination for the ministry at Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Springfield, Ill., and obtaining his master's in pastoral counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary, Ohio. As a Lutheran Missouri Synod minister for 45 years, he started one of the first Meals-on-Wheels in Pittsburgh, Pa., regularly directed Lutheran Children's Camps in Cabot, Pa., and began both adult and marital Kolnonia classes in Ohio and Pa.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 9 Wood St., Pittston, officiated by Pastor Allen Vomhof of St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickson City.

Viewing will be Monday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 445 Sanderson St., Throop. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 9 Wood St., Pittston. Anyone attending the funeral on Tuesday is asked to go directly to church.
