Monica T. Kromko, 79, of Waymart, died Sunday morning at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, after an extended battle against Lou Gehrig's disease. Her husband, Edward C. Kromko Sr., died June 2, 1988.

Born April 22, 1935, in Jessup, daughter of the late John Andrew and Catherine Jallo Hodorovich, Monica was a wonderful homemaker; she loved to cook and bake. She worked for Gertrude Hawk Chocolate Co. for several years after her husband's death. Monica enjoyed cross-stitch, crocheting and ceramics. She was a wonderful mother who cared for her family; she spent much of her time cooking, canning, gardening and working in her flower beds. Monica was a caring woman of great patience. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by nine children, Edward Kromko Jr. and wife, Denise, Waymart; Mary Ann Hopkins and husband, Jeff, Macungie; Judy Diehl and husband, Sidney, Honesdale; Steven Kromko and wife, Belinda, Waymart; John Kromko and companion, Paula, Tennessee; Michael Kromko and wife, Elizabeth; Robert Kromko and wife, Christine; David Kromko and wife, DeeAnn; and Thomas Kromko and wife, Shirley, all of Waymart; two brothers, John Hodorovich and wife, Dorothy, Archbald; Joseph Hodorovich and wife, Debbie, Michigan; a sister, Rosemary Chichak and husband, Joseph, Eynon; 31 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Andrew Kromko, on Dec. 14, 1995; a brother, Thomas Hodorovich; and a grandson, Jordan Andrew Kromko, in 1997.

Funeral services with Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church with Father Joseph Sitko, pastor, officiating. Friends are asked to go directly to the church. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
