William G. Puluka, 67, Commander of the Old Forge VFW, died unexpectedly Sunday in Wyoming County.

Born in Tobyhanna, he was the son of the late George and Julia Honcharick Puluka. After the death of his parents, while in his teens, he was adopted by the late Joseph and Marie Diakiw and moved to Old Forge, where he resided his entire life.
He is survived by his brother, Dr. John Diakiw and wife Donna, of Moosic; Eugene Furey and wife, Barbara, of Old Forge; and Merton Quick and wife, Patricia, of Tobyhanna; along with numerous other cousins and relatives. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Eleanor Miszkiel.
He attended Coolbaugh/Pocono schools and graduated from Johnson College in 1964, from which he was a proud alumni member.
A Navy veteran of the Vietnam era, he currently proudly served as commander of the Old Forge VFW Post 4954. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was also a member of the Old Forge American Legion and several other veterans organizations.
He was the owner of Bill's Garage and Puluka Motors, Old Forge, and was an avid automobile restoration buff. A serious NASCAR fan, Bill enjoyed his many road trips to the races at Pocono and Daytona. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and shooting sports.
The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, Robert J. Gillette, funeral director, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, with a Blessing Service by Rev. Michael J. Kuchera, S.J. (Rome) and Rev. Eduard Shestak (Ukraine). Interment services will follow at St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Minooka.
Friends and family may call Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Johnson College Scholarship Fund, Scranton, PA; or to the VFW Post 4954, Old Forge, PA.
