Helen Mazur, 90, of Dickson City, died Thursday evening, July 24, 2014 at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank T. Mazur, who died December 3, 2004.

Born in Avoca, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Piskur Richel. Helen was a devout Catholic, member of St. Mary's Visitation Church in Dickson City, and was rarely seen without her rosary. She, along with her husband, owned and operated the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home in Dickson City for 56 years. She was educated in Avoca schools and prior to retirement, she had been employed by Automation Components, Peckville, and Pawnee Pants, Olyphant.
Helen was affectionately known as "Babci" by her grandchildren and "Old Babci" by her great-grandchildren. During her life, Helen enjoyed traveling to polka dances and yearly polka vacations to Florida with her husband Frank, along with trips to Poland and Hawaii. She enjoyed playing bingo at St. Mary's and visiting various casinos, especially Mount Airy Casino Resort, Mt. Pocono. She loved to watch Duke Basketball and was a "die-hard" Mid Valley Spartan fan, making her way to almost everyone of her grandchildren's sporting events.
Surviving are a daughter, Elaine Astolfi and her husband, Tony; sons, Frank J. and wife, Cathy; Steve and wife, Doreen; Tom and wife, Donna, all of Dickson City; grandchildren, Frank T. II and wife, Lisa, Dickson City; Gary, Philadelphia; Alicia, Alannah, Gia, Azure Dee, Kerrianne, Krista Marie and Kailee Mazur, all of Dickson City; four great-grandchildren, Gwennyth, Frank T. III and identical twins, Roman and Isaac Mazur, all of Dickson City; sisters, Dorothy Richel, Theresa Ferack, Loretta Boyko and Christine Rogers; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, George, John and Adam Richel; and sisters, Ann Richel, Louise Witowski and Josephine Mokay.
The funeral will be held Friday, August 1, at 9:30 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Dickson City.
