Hazel (Spicer) Widaman, 87, of Stroudsburg, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at VNA Hospice House, East Stroudsburg, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Robert P. Widaman, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.

Born on March 7, 1927, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Chester and Bertie (McGrady) Spicer. She was a salutatorian graduate of New Oxford High School, attended Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. and after raising her children she graduated from East Stroudsburg University. She retired in 1987 as a Registered Nurse in the Student Health Center at ESU.
Hazel was very active in her community. She was one of the founding members of the Mount Pocono YMCA, a member of the Mount Pocono Fire Department Auxiliary, an active member and volunteer for the Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross, president of the PTA and a member of the Mount Pocono United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
Hazel was a loving mother and enjoyed doting on her granddaughters. She was an excellent cook and baker and until her vision deteriorated, she enjoyed sewing and was an expert seamstress. She also enjoyed gardening and floral arranging.
In addition to her husband, Bob, she is survived by her daughter, Dr. Janet W. Primrose and her husband, Mark of Stroudsburg; three granddaughters, Sarah Primrose and her husband, Jack McCloskey of West Palm Beach, Fla.; Rachel Primrose of State College, Pa.; and Emily Primrose of Knoxville, Tenn. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Valerie K. Widaman; special niece, Jane Hope White; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert P. Widaman, on March 27, 2012; her sister, Magdalena Spicer Tanguay and her triplet sisters, Hilda Elizabeth Spicer and Hope Eloise Spicer White.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Fifth Street, Stroudsburg, with Rev. Kathleen Lockwood officiating. Burial will take place on Sunday, August 3 at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery, 799 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg, Pa.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 2 from 6:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the VNA/Hospice House of Monroe County or to the Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
