Catherine Carruthers, 71, passed away Aug. 2, 2014, in Green Oak Twp., Mich.

She was born Aug. 13, 1942, in Detroit, Mich., to Robert A. Haggerty and Catherine McGuire.

Catherine was a sweet and loving person. She was a registered oncology nurse who loved spending time with her family, adored her grandchildren and had many close friends. She enjoyed shopping with friends and family, playing cards, completing puzzles, and was her grandchildren's number one fan at numerous sporting events and other activities. Catherine will be missed by all who knew her.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Donald J. Carruthers; children, Ann Marie (Bill) Carruthers-Vida, Plymouth, Mich.; James (Lynn) Carruthers, Brighton, Mich.; Kevin (Courtney) Carruthers, Pinckney, Mich.; and Brian (Katie) Carruthersm Brighton; 13 grandchildren; and all her many nieces and nephews. Catherine is also survived by her brother, Thomas (Margaret) Haggerty; and sisters, Mary Ann (Jose) Obial and Patricia (Rick) McGuire Haggerty Dible.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, who were formerly of Scranton, and sister, Margaret Dooley.

Catherine's family and friends will gather today, Aug. 5, 2014, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel, Michigan. Her healing farewell will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, with a gathering starting at 10 until the time of Mass. Father John Rocus will serve as celebrant.
