Hubert Edward McDonnell, 62, of Cherry Ridge, died July 30 in Cape Cod, Mass. He is survived by his wife, the former Maryann Hickey.

Born Jan. 14, 1952, in Honesdale, son of the late Hubert Edward and Ann Cronin McDonnell, he was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by the Post Office in Wilkes-Barre for 30 years.

Thank you to Dr. Martin Hyzinski and the staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton who cared for Ed through his fight with cancer this last year.

He is survived by a son, Kevin McDonnell, California; two grandsons, Mat McDonnell, Honesdale; and Orion McDonnell, Spokane, Wash.; and a sister, Margaret Brewster. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was a favorite uncle to Robin Sampson, Bob Brewster and Jamie McNerny and a favorite great-uncle who always took an interest in the life and goals of Maggie, Patrick and Curtis Sampson.

Ed was also preceded in death by a brother, James F. McDonnell.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hessling Funeral Home Inc., 428 Main St., Honesdale. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Cherry Ridge.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to service time.
