Rita M. Rogers, Moosic, died Friday evening at the inpatient unit of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. Her husband, Ernest J., died in May 1999.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Sokolow-ski and was a graduate of West Scranton High School. Rita worked in the garment industry for many years and retired from the Scranton School District, where she worked as a lunch lady. She was a parishioner of St. Paul of the Cross Parish. Throughout her life, she enjoyed bingo, the casino, reading books and doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Phillips and fiancé, Gary Fenton, Moosic; a son, Michael, Luzerne County; six grandchildren, Ryan and Andrew "A.J." Phillips, Stevie, Treat, Nicki and Dillon LaRusso; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Suzanne; a sister, Eleanor Bianca and husband, Joseph, Scranton; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Ernest; a daughter, Suzanne LaRusso; and a brother, Joseph.

Her family would like to express its deepest gratitude to the entire staff of Sacred Heart Hospice, especially Barb Pullman.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton. Interment, SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Taylor.

Friends may call Monday, 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, 19702.
