Jay E. Silverman, of Scranton, died Tuesday morning at the MS Hershey Medical Center, Dauphin County. He and his wife, the former Barbara Karzenoski, celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary on Sept. 27.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Jacob and Nealia Foulk Silverman, he was educated in Scranton schools and was a graduate of Scranton Central High School. After his graduation, he enlisted in the Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After his service time, he graduated from the Johnson and Wales Culinary School. He was formerly employed as the executive chef for Sheraton Corporation of New York City.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed cooking, taking pictures and spending time with his wife resulting in fun trips and great memories. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Also surviving are a son, Jay E. Silverman Jr. and fiancée, Christina Fetherman, Dunmore; two stepsons, Kevin Martin and companion, Devan Barr, Taylor; and James Martin, Duryea; three stepdaughters, Barbara A. Martin, Scranton; Katina A. Calamaco and husband, Juan, Scranton; and Stacey Amaya and husband, Ismael, Scranton; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Silverman.
The funeral will be Tuesday with a blessing service at a time to be announced in the Carl J. Savino Jr. Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
