Richard D. "Dick" Fries of Vandling died Sunday at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore. His wife of 64 years is the former Martha Sukiennik.

Born in Vandling, son of the late Russell B. and Delma Fitze Fries, he was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City. He was a graduate of Vandling High School and an Army veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of staff sergeant while serving in the European theater. He was a member and past commander of the Martin Skubic American Legion Post 524, Forest City. Before retirement, he was the co-owner and dealer of R.B. Fries Inc., car dealership, Vandling. He was a member and past master of the Mount Hermon Masonic Lodge No. 472, Union Dale, and the longtime treasurer of the Upper Woods Hunting Club.
Also surviving are two children, Craig Fries and wife, Colleen, Wrighter Lake; and June Fries-Dreger and husband, Michael, Pennsauken, N.J.; two grandchildren, Meredith Dreger and Michael Dreger, both of Philadelphia; a sister, Joan Bartholomay and husband, Allyn, Alden Lake; a brother, Jack Fries, Vandling; a sister-in-law, Florence Fries, Reading; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Gene Fries.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main St., Forest City, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Delaware Street, Forest City. Interment with military honors, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Forest City.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
