Gerard E. Carroll of Falls died Sunday morning at home. His wife of 41 years, the former Alice Watkins, died Jan. 27, 2002.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Ann Phelps Carroll, he was educated in Scranton schools. He was a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Iowa. Before retirement, he was employed in the maintenance department of St. Joseph's Center.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved camping, fishing, campfires and riding around Lake Winola on his pontoon boat and races at the Pocono Downs racetrack. He lived for his family and will be sadly missed.

Surviving are two sons, Gerard and wife, Deborah, Scranton; and John and wife, Sherrie, Inyokern, Calif.; two daughters, Peggie Zdaniewicz and husband, Christopher, with whom he resided; and Jo Ellen Mackie and husband, Mal, Scranton; five grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Anthony, Danielle and Morgan; four great-grandchildren, Alex, Miley, Payton and Camden; brothers and sisters, Nancy Judge, Cucamonga, Calif.; Richard Carroll and wife, Carolyn, Alexandria, Ohio; Joseph Carroll, Scranton; Tina Howe, Scranton; and Deborah Mazzarella, Scranton; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Marie Carroll; a sister, Barbara Ann Carroll; and two brothers, Robert Michael Carroll and John Paul Carroll.

The funeral will be Friday at a time to be announced from the Carl J. Savino Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., Scranton. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Friends may call Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
