Robert J. Kolata, 58, a South Scranton resident, died Tuesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness.

Born in Scranton, son of the late William and Mary Reisser Kolata, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.
He was an avid fisherman, teaching his entire family how to fish. He was a collector and collected music and videos of his favorite movies. He also enjoyed playing pool and cards.
Surviving are a son, Jake Kolata and wife, Daria, Scranton; a daughter, Stephanie Kolata-Rumovitz and husband, Rob, Las Vegas; a granddaughter, Mia Kolata; two sisters, Ruth Sutton, Clarks Summit; and Janice Biagioli and husband, John, Scranton; two brothers, John Kolata and wife, Mary Beth, Minooka; and William Kolata and wife, Gail, Olyphant; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his best friend, Yogi.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Melissa Rohlic Kolata.
A blessing service will be Friday at 7 p.m. in the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor, St. John Neumann Parish, officiating. Interment, private at the convenience of the family.
