Mary Margaret Thorburn Snyder of Scranton died peacefully on Monday afternoon following a lengthy illness. She was the widow of John J. Snyder, who died in 1998.

Born in Scranton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Catherine and William Thorburn. She graduated with honors from Scranton Technical High School. Mary worked for many years at the Third National Bank in Scranton and also for the municipality of Whitehall Twp., Pa.
Mary's family would like to thank Dr. Nicholas Dodge for his dedication and compassion. Thank you also to the staff at Green Ridge Health Care Center and Celtic Hospice for their caring and kindness.
Mary was surrounded by her loving family on her serene journey.
Surviving are her twin sister, Catherine Phillips and husband, John, Rockaway, N.J.; her brother, William Thorburn and wife, Maureen, Clarks Green; nieces, Kimberly Phillips, Carrie Simunov, Stacey McHale and Heather McCormick; nephew, Brian Thorburn; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her nephew, Scott Phillips, in 2013.
Visitation will be conducted Thursday from 10 until 11 a.m. in the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Scranton, Pa.
Committal services will be conducted privately at Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp., Pa.
