Born in Bronx, New York, on September 28, 1939, to Irving and Sylvia Lachs Bier, he grew up in the Bronx with his two brothers, George and Charles and later attended Miami University in the late 50's. Then, he began his career in horse racing which landed him in Monticello, New York, where he met the love of his life, Esther Ricino of Jessup. Their marriage of 48 years took them from coast to coast racing harness horses, where Artie was a leading driver and trainer at many racetracks. He and Esther were blessed later in life with their beloved horse, Riley Rose, who brought unexplainable joy & happiness to their lives. Together...Artie & Esther lived a very full & spirited life. Their marriage was an adventure. They shared the best of times and the worst of times. They truly lived and learned and always loved each other the best way they knew how, and in the end, it was always going to be them together.
He is survived by his four children, David "Tommy" Bier and wife, Bernadette; Daryl Bier and wife, Jenny; Danyell Long and husband, Jeffrey; and Sean Bier and wife, Crissy; his six grandchildren, Riley, Sebastian, Emily, Matthew, Catello and Chloe; his brothers, George; Charles and wife, Jackie; & Brett; and his nephew, Ira.
