Eugene John Emmons, 89, of Carbondale, died Monday at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. His wife, the former Ruth Swingle, died in 2007.

Born July 16, 1925, in Herrick Center, son of the late John H. and Ann Maslar Emmons, he was a 1943 graduate of Herrick Twp. High School. He served for three years in the Army during World War II as a medical/surgical technician and received several medals for his honorable service. Eugene was later employed by Scotch Motors, Carbondale.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to play his guitar.
He is survived by a son, Steven and wife, Arvis, Gainesville, Ga.; three sisters, Eunice and husband, Joseph Lozinak, Forest City; Lorraine Thompson, Binghamton, N.Y.; and Martha and husband, Louis Kotar, Vandling; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and William; and a sister, Arlene Rasmussen.
A graveside service will be conducted with military services Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Myers Cemetery, Herrick Center. Arrangements by the Oliver Shifler & Scotchlas Funeral Home Inc., Carbondale.
