Walter J. Nawrocki, of Throop, died suddenly on Thursday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, who died July 2, 2014. They were married for 58 years.
Walter was born in Throop on April 17, 1935, to the late Joseph and Alice Navrotsky. He graduated from Throop High School. For many years, he worked at Morris White Fashions, and later retired from the Haddon Craftsmen Distribution Center in Dunmore.
Walter was a golfer. He looked forward to Thursday mornings at Pine Hills with his friends, Roger and Richie. The early birds would wait for the dew to dry on the greens before playing. He had a hole-in-one twice in the many years he golfed! He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and taught both his sons to respect and love the outdoors.
He is survived by his children, JoAnn Galdieri and husband, Jim, Scranton; Thomas, Whitehall; and Walter Jr. and wife, Rose, Scott Twp.; grandchildren, Jayme Galdieri and wife, Desiree; Rob Galdieri and Wally, Tim and April Nawrocki; a great-granddaughter, Gianna Rose Galdieri; and a sister, Irene Esgro.
In addition to his wife and parents, his brothers, Joseph, Edward (Hazzie) and Jerry; and sisters, Lucy Chiarello, Alice Caputo, Helen Wright, Ethel Borik, Theresa and Florence preceded him in death.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 445 Sanderson St., Throop, with Mass at 9:30 in Blessed Sacrament Parish at St. Anthony's Church, 215 Rebecca St., Throop. Friends please go directly to the church. Interment, St. Anthony's Cemetery, Dickson City.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
