William Smulowitz Obituary

William Joseph Smulowitz, 88, formerly of Kingston, died on Wednesday.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of Ted and Leonore Smulowitz. He graduated from Central High School in Scranton, the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Law School. He was a lieutenant JG officer in the Navy.

Bill was the owner and operator of the Lion Brewery Inc. in Wilkes-Barre until 1993.

He served on the board of the United Penn Bank, the Jewish Federation, the United Jewish Appeal and was the president of the Small Brewers Association of Pennsylvania.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shelly Nathan Smulowitz; children, Lester, Dallas; and Lynn (Louis Muchnick), Penn Valley; two grandchildren, Nathan and Karly.

Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Smulowitz; and sister, Ruth Schwartz.

The funeral will be held at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, on Sunday at 11 a.m. with Rabbi Larry Kaplan and Cantor Ahron Abraham officiating. Visit www.RosenbergFuneralChapel.com for further information.

Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Israel or the charity of your choice.

Shiva will be observed at the Woodlands Inn and Resort, Wilkes-Barre, on Sunday, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

If there is any comfort in Bills passing it is knowing that he passed on the day of love and he HAS THE BIGGEST HEART of ANYONE I have ever met.

Billy and Shelley and their family always welcomed me into their homes as someone who was married to one of his nieces. I enjoyed many good times with Billy and his family and will carry with me forever fond memories of our special times together. My heart goes out to Shelley and the family.
