Patrick Sandone Obituary

Patrick W. Sandone Sr., Dunmore, died Friday evening in Mercy Hospice. His wife, the former Madelyn Ferguson, died Sept. 14, 1989.

Born in Philadelphia, son of the late Charles and Maria Perna Sandone, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a member of All Saints Church and its Holy Name Society. Before founding Sandone Tire Co. in 1953, he was a district sales manager for Dunlop Tire Co. He was also a founding member of the Dunmore Lions Club and was the 1996 recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services by the Lions Club International Foundation. He was a founding member of the Dunmore Booster Club and the Friends of the Bucks. A member of the former Scranton Elks Lodge, he also was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, the Elmhurst Country Club and the Knights of Columbus.

A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was an honorable and true gentleman and was devoted to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolee Williams and husband, Harry, Kingston; and Mary Beth McCarthy and husband, Thomas, Dunmore; two sons, Patrick W. Sandone Jr. and wife, Rosemary, Dunmore; and Michael P. Sandone, Dalton; a sister, Josephine Williams, Atco, N.J.; a brother, Charles Sandone and wife, Elizabeth, Florida; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a sister-in-law, Mildred Murphy, Dunmore; and his longtime companion, Rosemary Gaffney, Throop.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Sandone.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 11 a.m. in All Saints Church, Ward Street, Dunmore. Interment, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of Mr. Sandone. I can rememember going to church with my grandparents and standing in the back of the church after mass as they talked away with Mr. Sandone.
