James Stahl, 59, a South Scranton resident, died Sunday evening in Community Medical Center. He and his wife, the former Elaine Murphy, were married for 35 years.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Gerard and Ruth Lonsdorf Stahl, he was a 1967 graduate of South Scranton Central Catholic High School, and a 1971 graduate of the University of Scranton. A retired teacher, he was employed for 33 years by St. Michael's School, Falls Twp. He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Church and served in the Army Reserves. He was a co-owner of Stalls by Stahl Painting Co.

Also surviving are a son, Dr. Mark Stahl and wife, Lauren, San Diego; two daughters, Emily Shedlauskas and husband, Mark, Clarks Summit; and Jennifer McGaurrigle and husband, Sean, Harleysville; a granddaughter, Ava Shedlauskas; a sister, Dr. Mary Stahl Levick and husband, Donald, Allentown; and four brothers, Thomas Stahl, Peckville; Dr. Michael Stahl and wife, Barbara, Knoxville, Tenn.; William Stahl and wife, Pamela, Factoryville; and Gregory Stahl and wife, Rochelle, Moscow; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews; a mother-in-law, Marcella McGee Murphy, Scranton; and brothers- and sisters-in-law.

The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with Mass at 11 in Nativity of Our Lord Church, to be celebrated by Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
