Michael L. Deskus, 95, of Newfoundland, died Tuesday morning in Brighten at Julia Ribaudo, Lake Ariel. He was the husband of the late Stella Fadrowski Deskus, who died Jan. 23, 1999.

Born in Inkerman, son of the late Charles and Veronica Duriskas Deskus, he had resided in Newfoundland since 1954 and previously in Bethlehem. Mickey was a crane operator at Bethlehem Steel for more than 30 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Church of St. Anthony of Padua and the Knights of Columbus. He was associated with the Pike County Food Pantry in Newfoundland for more than 20 years and was a former director of the Gerene-Dreher- Sterling Fair Association.

An accomplished athlete, he was a standout basketball and baseball player, and, in his 60s, he could still show the kids at thing or two. He continued to play golf until he was 92.

Surviving are two sons, Jordan "Jay" Deskus, Newfoundland; and Richard Deskus, Longview, Texas; and three grandsons, Chad, Devin and John Deskus.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, Newfoundland.

Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, South Sterling.
