Stanley X. Zaleski, 87, of South Scranton, died Friday afternoon at Allied Skilled Nursing.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Xavier and Sophie Chmielewski Zalewski, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical School, class of 1943. Before retiring, he was employed for more than 32 years as a machine operator, fork-lift driver and union steward at the Murray plant, Scranton. He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish.
Stanley was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Eagles. He enjoyed vacationing in Cape May, N.J., and visiting Lackawanna State Park.
Surviving are a son, Richard S. Zalewski, Cherry Hill, N.J.; a daughter, Ann Duram, West Hollywood, Calif.; a grandson, Christopher Zalewski; many nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Batchek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Church, South Scranton, by the Rev. Scott P. Sterowski, pastor. Interment, Sacred Hearts Cemetery, Davis Street.
Friends may call at the church, 9 until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the National Stroke Association, 800-STROKES, www.stroke.org.
