Anthony J. "Tony" Tabone, 70, of Summit Street, LeRoy, N.Y., died Saturday at home. His wife of 48 years is Martha Lapp Tabone.

Tony was born in LeRoy on April 4, 1941, a son of the late Charles and Margaret Cusimano Tabone. He was a graduate of LeRoy High School, class of 1959, and attended Bryant and Stratton College. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and was employed as a groundskeeper at the LeRoy Country Club until he retired. Tony was a member of the LeRoy Fire Department, Oatka Fish and Game Club and an active member of the LeRoy Country Club. An avid golfer who enjoyed sports, he was a member of the LeRoy semiprofessional football team and a loyal Yankees fan. Tony served three terms as a LeRoy town councilman and was a devoted family man who loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Also surviving are a son, Stephen Charles and wife, Rosemary Tabone, Scranton; a daughter, Deborah May and husband, Jim Groark, Rochester, N.Y.; a brother, Salvatore and wife, Diana Tabone, Batavia, N.Y.; two sisters, Margaret and husband, Anthony Cusmano, Attica, N.Y.; and Carol Tabone, Spencerport, N.Y.; five grandchildren, William Owen Groark, Stephen Angelo Tabone, Joseph Lapp Tabone, Julia Evalyn Tabone and Angelina May Tabone; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by six siblings, Dominic, Philip, Charles, Joseph, Lena Ferrara and Sarah Vito.

Family and friends may call at Lovria's Memorial Chapel, 36 W. Main St., LeRoy, on Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy. Burial will be private in St. Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LeRoy Sports Boosters Club, c/o LeRoy Central School, Trigor Park, LeRoy, NY 14482 or LeRoy Volunteer Ambulance Fund, 1 Tountas Ave., LeRoy, NY 14482.
