Arthur A. Fernandes of the Bunker Hill section of Dunmore died Friday morning in the Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Timothy and Sadie Versace Fernandes. He was educated in Scranton schools. He was formerly employed by the Scranton Animal Hospital located on Providence Road. He was a loving and devoted brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend who loved all animals. He would always bring home stray animals and was constantly answering questions and giving advice on animal care. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Ann Shimkosky and husband, Charles, Bunker Hill section, with whom he resided; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, Timothy, Patrick, Alfred and Alban; and a sister, Isabel Morris.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in St. Rocco's Church, Kurtz Street, Dunmore. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to SAFE (Supporting Autism and Families Everything), 275 Mundy St., Suite 201, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702. Arrangements provided by Carl J. Savino Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., West Scranton.
