Glenn Bater, 65, of New York City and Union Dale, died Oct. 28 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen O'Connor. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Karen Callison.

Born May 4, 1946, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Anthony and Elsie Sedar Bater. He received his bachelor's degree in music/music education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., and his master's degree in music from the Manhattan School of Music. After 38 years, he retired from Metropolitan Opera Co., in New York City, where he was a veteran opera singer, baritone voice. He sang with the chorus and also performed small solo parts. He was also an actor and performer and was a member of the Actors' Equity Association in New York City. In his early years, he was an iron worker in Chicago and had been a member of the Iron Workers Union. He was a member of the Grace Gospel Chapel in Harlem and had served as a Bible teacher. He was the former president of the board of directors for the Morningside Gardens Co-Op in Manhattan.
He is also survived by two sons, Benjamin Bater, New York, N.Y.; and Luke Bater and wife, Christine, Mantua, N.J.; a granddaughter, Lucy Bater; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joshua Bater.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. from the Grace Gospel Chapel, 102 W. 133rd St., New York City. A second funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Elkdale Baptist Church, West Clifford. Interment will follow in the Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.
