Annabelle Ruth (Stanton) Carpenter, 88, of Clarks Summit, died Friday in Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was the widow of the late Russell M. Carpenter, who died Oct. 29, 1997. The couple were married Sept. 21, 1948, and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.

She was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Fleetville, and she was the daughter of the late Ward and Grace (Franklin) Stanton. She was a graduate of Benton School and Binghamton (N.Y.) Business Institute. She was a bookkeeper having worked for area factories. She was a member of the Parker Hill Community Church, Clarks Green, and was a former member of the Temple Baptist Church and its missionary fellowship. She formerly was active and a member of the Joseph A. Hall Memorial Ladies Auxiliary of the Clarks Summit Fire Company 1 Inc. and the ladies auxiliary of VFW Post 7069, Clarks Summit.
Surviving are three nieces, Darlene Monahan, Clarks Summit; Candy Waltz, Scranton; and Caitlan Monahan. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Emerson Stanton.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. from Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Mark Stuenzi, pastor, Parker Hill Community Church, Clarks Green and Dickson City. Interment, Chase Cemetery, Fleetville. Friends may call Tuesday, 10:30 until service time.
