Elizabeth L. Vail, 33, of Scranton, died Tuesday at Moses Taylor Hospital.

Born in Scranton, daughter of John and Janice Zvirbilis Vail, she was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral, a graduate of Scranton High School class of 1996, and attended Penn State University, Luzerne County Community College. She was most recently enrolled at Kingsborough Community College, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Elizabeth worked as a caregiver and enjoyed the company of elderly people. She was a volunteer at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, where she rescued and fostered countless animals, including her three cats, who gave her great joy. She enjoyed sewing, music, drives through the country and traveling, particularly to the Southwest. She was known for her dry sense of humor, and was an avid reader. When she wasn't reading, she took pleasure in curling up with a warm blanket and watching classic movies. She had a green thumb and liked working in her garden.

Elizabeth had a kind heart and gentle soul. Elizabeth was a loving, caring, considerate and compassionate daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed.

Also surviving are her maternal grandmother, Helen Zvirbilis, Scranton; two brothers, John Vail and wife, Katherine, Berkshire, N.Y.; and Aaron Vail and girlfriend, Jacqueline Batton, Brooklyn; and a niece, Grace Vail.

The funeral will be Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Peter's Cathedral. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
