Theodore "Bear" Mattern Jr., 57, of North Scranton, died Monday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Theodore and Bessie Kreiser Mattern, he was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He worked in the Department of General Services for the state at the State Office Building and also at Balendy Brothers garage.

He was a member of the Scranton Pool League, Park Place River Association and the Lower Green Ridge Neighborhood Association. Ted enjoyed fishing, antique automobiles, riding his motorcycles, NASCAR, golfing for the Waldo's league, and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by three daughters, Kathy "Dinks" and husband, David Summa, Scranton; Misty Mattern, Ellabell, Ga.; and Megan Mattern, Scranton; five grandchildren, Chloe, David Jr., Mia, Teddy "Bear Jr." Summa and Aidrianna Mattern; two brothers, David and wife, Cathy, Dunmore; and Ronald, Scranton; a sister, Kathy and husband, Robert Skeras, Archbald; and three nieces, Kimberly, Loren and LeeAnn.

Bear's family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Tripp Park Community Center. Arrangements are under the care of the Bomberger-Lesko Funeral Home Inc., 1660 N. Main Ave. For directions or to send condolences:
