Edward J. Engle, 51, of Spring Brook Twp., and formerly of Scranton, died Nov. 19 at Regional Hospital of Scranton.

Born in Scranton on Nov. 14, 1961, son of Helen Balendy Engle of Scranton and the late Peter Engle Jr., Eddie was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and, upon graduation, enlisted in the Army, where he would ultimately receive an honorable discharge.

Before an accident, he had worked as a landscaper at the Mulberry Bush for owners Michael and Helene Colaneri, who had always treated him as if he was family.

A sports fan who liked the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees, he enjoyed playing darts, shooting pool, fishing and hiking. He'll be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is also survived by five siblings, sisters, Joann Diano and companion, Thomas Mahoney, Scranton; and Shirl Engle, Spring Brook Twp.; and brothers, Peter W., Robert and wife, Karen; and Richard Engle, who had been remarkably loving and caring for his brother, all of Scranton; two nieces; and four nephews.

Memorial services will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, by the Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora Jr., pastor of Peckville United Methodist Church. Private interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, at the convenience of the family.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 5 to time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family, 1034 E. Locust St., Scranton, PA 18505, to help them arrange a much-deserved celebration of his life.
