Merle Bambach Dwyer, 83, of Venice, Fla., originally of Scranton, died Sunday at Venice Regional Hospital after a sudden illness. She was the widow of Glynn Dwyer, who died in 2001.

Born Jan. 6, 1929, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Merle Miller Bambach. Growing up in Scranton, she attended and graduated from Scranton Central. She and her husband moved to New Jersey in 1960, where she attended and graduated from Trenton State College, earning her teaching degree. She taught in public and private parochial schools in the New Jersey area. Merle moved to Venice in 1991 from Texas, after residing in Hillsborough, N.J., for most of her adult life. She was a member of the Epiphany Catholic Cathedral in Venice and an auxiliary member of the American Legion and VFW in Venice.
She is survived by a son, Glynn J. Dwyer Jr., Highlands, N.J.; two granddaughters, Ashton Dwyer, a student at Bryn Mawr College; and Erica Dwyer, a student at the Hun School of Princeton, Princeton N.J.; two brothers, William Bambach, Columbus, Miss.; and John "Jackie" Bambach, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roland Bambach and Robert Bambach; and three sisters, Gale Price, Carol Davis and Marilyn Babcock. Funeral arrangements are pending from the Yurkanin Funeral Home, 1115 Main St., Dickson City.
