Catherine Dunio, 81, a resident of St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home in Elmhurst Twp., and formerly of Scranton, died early Monday in St. Mary's Villa. Her husband, Sam Dunio, died in 2007.

Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Mulrain Cavanaugh, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School. She was a member of St. Paul's Parish, St. Clare's Church in Scranton.
Catherine was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend who will be extremely missed.
The family would like to thank the staffs at St. Mary's Villa, Celtic HealthCare and Dr. Salvatore Lawrence for the care and compassion shown to Catherine.
Surviving are three sons, John Dunio and wife, Anne, Jefferson Twp., Joseph Dunio, Scranton, and Michael Dunio, Scranton; a daughter, Mary Beth Straka, Jefferson Twp.; two grandchildren, Matthew and James Dunio of Scranton; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffery Dunio; four sisters, Mary Newberry, Elizabeth Feeney, Helen Everett and Alice Bonifanti; two brothers, Matthew and John Cavanaugh; a niece, Marybeth Holmes; and a nephew, William Bonifanti.
The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Clare's Church, North Washington Avenue, Scranton. Interment in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Covington Twp.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
