Stephen M. Hayes of Simpson died Saturday at home.

Born in Taylor, son of Richard and Rose Nicholson Hayes, he graduated from Carbondale High School with high honors and also from Johnson College, where he had been on the dean's list. He worked in the electronics department of Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Steve was an avid hunter and fan of the Michigan University football team. He enjoyed spending time with his family and going out to dinner. He also loved his dog, Tootsie, and his cat, Ralph. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Also surviving are a sister, Heather Hayes, Plymouth; a brother, Richard Hayes and wife, Heather, Pleasant Mount; his fiancée, Tanya Chervenak, Carbondale; grandmothers, Catherine Hayes, Taylor; and Theresa Nicholson, Scranton; a niece, Katrina; and two nephews, Ethan and Mike; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. from the Jacob Davis Funeral Home, 422 S. Main St., Taylor, with services by the Rev. Donald Roberts, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Taylor. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 3.
