Irene Lucas Gibson Potvin, 80, of Scranton, died Jan. 24 after an illness at Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was previously married to Donald Gibson, and later to the late Joseph Potvin.

Born in Plainfield, N.J., Irene was the daughter of the late Stanley Sr. and Frances Pruss Lucas. She attended Plainfield and Rutherford, N.J., schools and, before retirement, she worked at Price Chopper in Taylor and Dunkin' Donuts and Chick's Diner in Scranton.
Irene enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening and was an avid animal lover. She had a keen interest in nutrition and was a regular listener of talk radio.
She is survived by a brother, Stanley Lucas Jr., Scranton; her granddaughter, Lisa Gibson; son-in-law, Gary Lucks; and her great-grandson, Dylan Lucks, all of Oakland, Calif.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Walter Gibson; and daughter, Jacqueline Gibson.
In accordance with her wishes, Irene was cremated. Interment services for burial of both her cremated remains and those of her daughter, Jacqueline, will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Sacred Hearts Cemetery, Minooka section of Scranton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
