Robert J. Skaluba, 99, of Scranton, died Monday afternoon at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Dorothy Zawacki, on May 30, 1968.

Born in Scranton, son of the late John and Catherine Oliva Skaluba, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and served in the Army during World War II. Always working in the auto parts business, he went on to be president and owner of Island Auto Sales Inc. before his retirement. He was a member of the Elks Club, where he enjoyed playing cards on Friday nights, and also liked to bowl and hunt, but his favorite pastime was the casino.
The family wishes to thank the staff, nurses and aides at Hospice Community Care for all of the kindness and compassion shown to Robert.
Surviving are his children, Paul, Scranton; Fred and wife, Sharon, Clifford; Jean Skaluba, Dunmore; James and wife, Teresa, Scranton; and Sandi Gabriel, Dunmore; his sisters, Ceil Kilian, Arlington, Va.; and Elizabeth Birkland, Scranton; a brother, Constant Skaluba, Scranton; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine; sons Robert Jr. and David; and siblings, Helen, Louise and Fred.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Friends are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
