Catherine McDonnell, Hilton Head Island, S.C., formerly of Scranton, died Friday at the home of her daughter. She was the widow of Major James McDonnell, who died Nov. 8, 2002.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John and Mae Harris Davis, she was a member of United Baptist Church of Scranton and its Women's Association. Educated in Scranton public schools and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, she was employed in the local garment industry before retirement. Catherine was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen Loud and husband, George, Hilton Head Island; a son, James P. McDonnell Jr., McLean, Va.; a granddaughter, Kelly Cleary and husband, Andrew, Washington, D.C.; two great-grandchildren, Maggie Cleary and Colin Cleary, both of Washington, D.C.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Davis; and a sister, Mary Osterhout.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Davies-Jones Funeral Chapel, 135 S. Main Ave., with services by the Rev. Earl O. Cassel, pastor of United Baptist Church. Interment, Washburn Cemetery.
