Ruth Dean, 79, a resident at Golden Living Center in Scranton, died Monday afternoon following a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Harry Dean, who died in 1996.

Born Dec. 10, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Ruth Lavin. She was raised and educated in Ozone Park, N.Y., and had resided in Scranton since 1984. Ruth was employed by A&P Stores for several years.
Surviving are two sons, Edward Dean and wife, Rosemary, Highland Park, N.Y.; and Daniel Dean and wife, Jennie, Brodheadsville; four grandchildren, Edward Dean Jr., Michael Dean, Daniel Dean Jr. and David Dean; and good friend and caregiver, Eugene Bacorn, Scranton.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Claire Carpinone; and two brothers, Albert and Martin Lavin.
A blessing service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Scranton, with Monsignor William Feldcamp as officiating clergy. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.
