Ceil D. Hughes of Waverly died Feb. 19. She was the widow of William T. Hughes, who died Oct. 14, 1979.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John and Catherine Devine, she was educated in Scranton public schools and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Ceil was a founding member of St. Gregory's Church, a former president of the Waverly Women's Club, served on the board of the Salvation Army, where she was an active member for more than 35 years, and was also a member of the Scranton Canoe Club and the Country Club of Scranton.

She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.

Ceil was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed.

Surviving are a son, William T. Hughes, Nicholson; a daughter, Carroll Bedford, Montrose; a grandson, William T. Hughes III Scranton; and a nephew.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Slowey.

Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. Interment, Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly.
