Walter Baseski, 97, of Wyoming, died Tuesday at Commonwealth Home Health & Hospice of Wilkes-Barre. His wife, Wanda Baseski, died in 2011.

Born in Swoyersvile, son of the late Peter and Katherine Antos Baseski, Walter was a member of St. Frances X. Cabrini Church, Carverton. For many years, he was an insurance agent for the MetLife Insurance Co. and also owned and operated Wafer Bakery before retirement. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a family man who loved his wife of 76 years and adored his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his great-great-grandchildren. He was very community-minded and involved with many local organizations.
Surviving are two sons, Barry and wife, Theresa, Carverton; and Lance and wife, Marianne, Carverton; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Peter, John and Joe Baseski, and Adam Leptuck; and two sisters, Mary Baseski and Anna Kern.
The funeral will be Friday with Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Frances X. Cabrini Church, Carverton. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Swoyersville. Friends may call Friday, 9:30 to Mass time. Arrangements, Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Homes, Carbondale.
