Richard J. Evans, 86, of Hawley, died Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home, Elmhurst Twp. His wife, Ruth E. Lounsbury, died May 18, 1997.

Born June 16, 1926, in Kingston, son of the late Fredrick J. and Anna Jones Evans, Richard retired as a master electrician after 40 years from Lederle Laboratories, Pearl River, N.Y. He served in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of Naurashank Masonic Lodge 589, Pearl River, and his family owned and operated Diamond E Stables in Spring Valley, N.Y., for 13 years. He also donated his time as a coach to the South Orangetown Little League, Orangeburg, N.Y. He was a former member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre, and also sang in its choir.

He is survived by four daughters, Kathy Schill and husband, Richard, Bahama, N.C.; Carol Bundenthal and husband, William, Warwick, N.Y.; Sandy Mihalis, Lenoxville; and Tami Prager and husband, Adley, Rougemont, N.C.; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Rachel Schill, and Brianna, Corissa and William Jr. Bundenthal.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret and Nancy.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, with services by the Rev. Donald Schaible, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church, Carbondale. Interment, Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.
