Alan J Hoyt, 59, of Chapman Lake, died Tuesday from smoke inhalation as the result of a fire at his home.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late John and Eloise Phillips Hoyt, he graduated form Scott High School (Lakeland) and was previously employed in the building trades and was a "jack of all trades." Alan could fix anything. An intelligent and talented man, he was best known for his love and passion for music. A singer and songwriter, he played many instruments and excelled at playing the guitar. He was an avid NASCAR fan since its inception and a supporter of Chevy Racing and particularly, Jimmie Johnson. He enjoyed watching movies and television shows including "Jeopardy." Alan was well-known for his friendly, outgoing demeanor and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his sisters, Pamela Hoyt, Chapman Lake; and Linda Witters, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; a brother, Mark Hoyt, Excelsior, Minn.; three nephews, Jeremy and Derek Witters, South Lake Tahoe, and Nigel Hoyt, Excelsior.

Cremation will be by Maple Hill Crematory. There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Battenberg Funeral Home, 363 Washington Ave., Jermyn.
